HISTORY

1859

Church built.

1860

A new steel bell was cast and hung in the new church.

1861

Church consecrated.

1901

5 bells cast and hung as a chime in the church by Mears & Stainbank.

1963

Oct.

Church burnt down.

1970

Bells removed from the church, originally to recast into a light eight (tenor 4½ cwt) for the tower of the new church. The 2nd of this new eight was given and hung, but the remainder never were as the tower was never completed. The old church ruins were demolished in this year.

1980

Bells sold to Wighton, Norfolk where they were tuned and augmented with a treble to form a ring of six.

Alfred Bowell may have also done some work or an inspection here as he lists the weights (as given above) in his notebook.
