HISTORY |
| 1867 | 5th Oct | Foundation stone laid. Architect Mr Whichcord, builders Dove Brothers. |
| 1868 | 5th July | The first service was held in the newly erected church. It had a tower and spire 120 ft high in the angle of the chancel and north transept. There was one bell (no details). |
| 1870 | Parish created from St George's, Beckenham. | |
| 1870 | 21st Sept | Church consecrated by the Bishop of Dover. |

A new ring of three bells was placed in the tower by John Warner & Sons. (No other details). The old bell was sent to Noble High School (now Noble College), Machilipatnam, Madras. |
| 1940 | 21st Sept | The south aisle of the church and many windows were severly damaged by a landmine. Later that year the spire collapsed and the bell stage of the tower was demolished. The bells were damaged or destroyed. |
| 1944 | 22nd July | The church and vicarage were shattered beyond repair by a flying bomb. Another one followed on 27th. |

The bell of St John the Evangelist, Dunton Green was acquired on the closure fo that church. It is hung in a bracket on the south side, has no canons and is fitted with an electro-magnetic hammer and control unit by John Taylor Bellfounders Ltd. |
